The question in our Midday Sound Off was, "You are the guest of a friend at a house party. You don't know the hosts personally but they treat you like a member of their social circle. So when you witness your friend slip one of their valuables into their pocket you are dumb-founded. You challenge your friend about it and they tell you to mind your own business. Do you A) Mind your own business as they are not your friends or B) Tell the hosts anyway."

I would tell the hosts. Clearly that friend and, I use that term loosely, is involving me in their dishonest activity. What would it be next - perfume from a store in town? I think not!

Comments- The Hosts may think that it is me as they really don't know me and it seems to be the first time that I am at their home.

I don't have to continue being this person's friend, but I'm not going to get myself wrapped up in anything. They have history.

This is a situation is where one can see themselves in between a rock and a hard place. It all boils down to honesty being the best policy and being a whistle blower. One must remember Linda Tripp and her whistle blowing actions the repurcussions were not what she expected. In the end she was excommunicated from society and given a bad reputation. On the other hand if the person was my true friend they would not have had any reason to steal from their host. However since they were caught and spoken to they should have returned the item and get help since they seem to be a budding kleptomaniac.

It's stealing downright plain and simple you should alert them to that next time it could be something alot worse

it's a tough call to make but ultimately I would tell the hosts, even if it means I risk losing my friend because I wouldn't want to be associated with someone who would steal from others even if it was the smallest and most useless item... Stealing is wrong.. Period! I would tell the hosts and then call my friend out on his/her behaviour because it will ultimately reflect on me and my ethics.

Because you are the person's friend. If I keep my mouth shut and pretend that nothing happened, and the hosts eventually find out, they will think that it was our intention to steal the valuable item. So if I tell them that my friend is stealing, I am protecting them from a theif as well as myself.

For the mere reason, I am the new comer; therefore the first person who will most likely be accused is me,and being that the hosts have accpected me as one of their own I would not like that jepordised due to my friend's bad habits. plus, if he or she is truley my friend he or she would not have such a thing because he or she would know the probabilty of the hosts accusing me would be very high.
